Salzburg Sportwelt - Engine of Austria's biggest skiing pleasure
In the Salzburg Sportwelt, winter sport aficionados can experience 860 kilometers of skiing slopes as well as 270 top modern equipments that move you up the hill. The enormous world cup hills of of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee and Flachau are also part of the Salzburger Sportwelt as the cosy locations of Wagrain, St. Johann-Alpendorf, Radstadt, Filzmoos, Kleinarl and Eben. Where ski legends like Annemarie Moser-Pröll or Hermann Maier, Michael Walchhofer, Hannes Reichelt, Andrea Fischbacher and Michaela Kirchgasser improved their skiing techniques, ski tourists enhance their skiing capabilities as well. 21 ski schools and mor than 500 skiing instructors help to advance on board or ski. Snow security is guaranteed because many ski resorts are situated on more than 2.000 meters above sea level and nearly 100 per cent are equipped with snow canons. New cable cars and 100% snow security
270 modern facilities stand for perfect winter conditions in Ski amadé. The Salzburger Sportwelt is the heart and organizer and invests into comfort, technology and snow-facilities every year. Well-timed for the winter we can introduce 2 new gondolas for 8 persons (Flachauwinkl-Zauchensee, Grafenberg Wagrain) one chair lift for 6 and one for 8 persons (Snowspace Flachau, Flachauwinkl-Zauchensee) with weather protection hood and seat heating.
Moreover, we increased the production of artificial snow: More than 1.000 snow cannons are ready to use and guarantee snow reliability until spring. We only use natural water supplies and clean energy for the production of snow. Climate protection is important for the Salzburger Sportwelt: In all 8 resorts we use eco-friendly heating facilities for heating and power production. We also use renewable wood and therefore save up to 10 million liters of fuel oil.
In the Salzburger Sportwelt both winter sports lovers, families and nature lovers can enjoy top modern infrastructure.
Nostalgic and alternative activities on and off the slopes
The Salzburger Sportwelt is the first location for top events, famous skiing times and popular chill-out.
In January the Historic Ice Trophy (06.-09.01.2010) with more than 100 international participants takes place in Altenmarkt. At the 31st international hot-air balloon week (09. - 16.01.2010) in Filzmoos more than 40 participants start their balloons at the Night of the hot-air balloons (10.01.09). The Zipflbob-World Championship in Flachau (15. - 17.01.10) is the first world championship of this fun-sport. Moreover, in January the 35th international Tauern-Run (30.-31-01.10) takes place in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.
In March, you can experience the Nostalgic Ski Race in Wagrain (14.03.2010), and the Sun Ski Race in Filzmoos (03. - 07.03.10) with house and soul music near the ski slope Papageno. Wagrain also offers a Snow Volleyball Grand Slam (03.04.10) in April.
In Radstadt the longest toboggan run of the Salzburger Sportwelt (6 kilometers long) at day and night awaits you. Starting point is the Köngislehen-gondola. Another unforgettable experience is the hike with a night-watch, with halberd and lantern through the historic part of Radstadt.
In Flachau, you can experience tobogganing, snow-tubing and snow-rafting with a rubber-boat.
In all holiday resorts a great number of cross-country ski-tracks, winter paths, nordic walking trails and ice tubes brighten your day after closing-times.
